Ultimate PS4 Error Code List

The Ultimate PS4 Error Code List is finally here! In this post I will go over the main errors that can occur on PS4 and how to avoid them…if they can be avoided. Just like our previous post, the Ultimate HTTP Error Code List, this article will clarify the nature of the PS4 errors that are the most likely to appear on your screen. While this list will focus on frequent errors that users have encountered since the console’s debut, a complete list with ALL the error codes is available on PlayStation’s official website HERE.

Before going over the surplus of error codes, it is essential to understand the structure of those. Error codes returned by the system software consist of a string containing two letters with a specific meaning, five digits followed by a hyphen and one final digit. No one can blame you for not knowing what all these numbers mean but it’s important to learn what the two letters stand for to understand the nature of the error.

Similar errors may manifest themselves under a different error code if you are experiencing an error not listed here, look for error message rather than its code. For example, both error code E-8000102 and WC-40355-7 refer to an error concerning adding funds to a sub account. I chose to include E-8000102 by default but the solution works for both errors.

CE – Common Errors

CE-33987-0 Internet connection test error

During the PlayStation Network (PSN) sign-in process, you may experience an issue when connecting as your network has timed out.

Test your internet connection by going to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection. If testing your connection doesn’t solve the problem trying to reset your local network connection by rebooting your modem or router might do it.

Finally, you may need to update your router’s firmware. This can be done by contacting your router manufacturer or Internet Service Provider (ISP) for assistance. If none of these solutions helped you may want to try connecting later as the server may experience high traffic.

CE-30774-1 Cannot update

This error occurs when updating the system software using a USB storage device.

If you are unable to perform the system software update, make sure that your USB device is formatted as FAT or exFAT. If it was the case then you should check if the update file was stored in the correct file structure.

Once again, if these solutions didn’t do the work try again by deleting the downloaded file from your USB and re-downloading it.

CE-35287-5 Cannot connect to the server

Either the game server or the PSN is temporarily unavailable. The only thing to do here is to try again later and check the status of the PSN.

CE-33945-4 Connection to server failed

You may experience issues when connecting to your local network, if that’s the case, there are a couple of ways to fix the problem.

The issue might come from the PSN or the game’s servers. Make sure to check the status of the PSN. If the servers of the game and the PSN are up and running, perform an Internet connection test by going to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection.

Finally, if the error is still occurring try updating your router’s firmware or try again later as the servers may be overwhelmed.

CE-34861-2 Connection has failed

If you were previously connected to the Internet, this error may be characterized by a temporary unavailability of the PSN or game’s server.

Checking the status of the PSN and the status of the game’s server via its official website may clarify the nature of the error.

Another solution would be verifying the availability of the SSL in your Internet connection.

CE-34632-8 Content unavailable

The content trying to be accessed is currently unavailable.

Try again later or contact the PlayStation Support for assistance.

CE-35486-6 Cannot read disc

The system is unable to read the disc. Either the disc format is not supported by the system or it may be corrupted.

Just like you might’ve expected one solution here is to eject the disk and see if it’s not dirty or damaged in any way. Sometimes cleaning the disc gently can save you from this problem.

If you are inserting a disk for the first time, make sure the format is supported. Among the supported disc formats, your system accepts the following: Blu-ray Discs and DVDs. CD, BD-RE and DVDsfinalizedalisd are not supported by the system.

Finally, if the error is still happening, try shutting down and rebooting the system. This solution may seem generic but trust me, it can be a life saver.

“I’m obsessed with my PlayStation. I’ll come home and plug away at ‘Fallout’ for a couple of hours. Or, if I’m feeling the hacking and slashing, I’ll play a little ‘God of War’.” – Tracy Spiridakos

CE-35489-9 Region code of disc is not supported

If you bought a game or DVD from another country, your system may not support the region code of the disc due to regional restrictions. Since a region code cannot be changed, there are no solutions besides avoiding buying discs from elsewhere than your country. By the way, I would get a refund if I were you.

CE-34335-8 No HDD detected

Users may experience this error when the PS4 is unable to detect the Hard Disk Drive in the system.

If the error persists, contact the PlayStation Support. The HDD may be corrupted or broken. Your system may also be the problem, contacting the PS Support may be your best bet.

CE-35406-8 PS Vita couldn’t be linked to PS4

If the accounts on the systems are not the same, the PS Vita can’t be linked to the PS4 for Remote Play.

In order to bypass this error you must link both systems on the same PSN account. Switching the PSN account on your PS4 can be done by going through Power > Switch User from the home screen.

CE-34878-0 Error with the application

An error occurring with the application.

Try closing the application, installing the latest System Software and game updates before restarting your system.

Re-installing the original Hard Disk Drive (HDD) in your system if you changed it may be a solution.

In case re-installing the original HDD didn’t work, try restarting the system.

Finally, contact the PlayStation Support if none of these solutions helped with the error.

CE-36244-9 Download suspended

When downloading content, you may experience this error when the download has been suspended. This error also mean that the downloaded content may be corrupted.

Restarting your PS4 system then restarting the download may fix the issue. To restart download you need to go through Notifications>Downloads.

Re-installing the original Hard Disk Drive (HDD) in your system if you changed it may be a solution.

Finally, try a different network if available or change to a static IP. If you can’t change network, try again later.

CE-33676-5 Item Corrupted

The item in question is either corrupted or isn’t detectable by the system.

In order to fix that error you need to check if you have the license to the content. Try re-downloading the content and go to Settings > PSN > Restore Licenses. Shut down the system and reboot in safe mode to avoid the error.
